ANGLE STONE CHAPTER NO. 118 North Attleboro Instituted April 16, 1908 Constituted November 30, 1908 Among several names considered, Angle Stone was finally selected. Angle Tree Stone is a historical landmark located in North Attleboro, which marked the boundaries of the old Massachusetts Plymouth colonies. A Commission was appointed in 1640 to ascertain the boundaries between the tow colonies. They encountered great difficulties tramping though the woods and eventually found themselves off course. Instead of rectifying the entire line, they created an angle and proceeded along a new course. A tree was used to mark this place until it finally decayed and a stone was made to replace it - hence Angle Tree Stone. The Chapter drops the word tree.
