How does one keep from "growing old inside"? Surely only in community. The only way to make friends with time is to stay friends with people. Taking community seriously not only gives us the companionship we need, it also relieves us of the notion that we are indispensable. - Robert McAfee Brown

BROCKTON The Chapter took its name in honor of its home city, which made history as one of the leading shoe manufacturing cities in the country. From 1821 - 1874 the city was know as North Bridgewater. On May 6, 1874 the name was changed to Brockton. The story goes that the name was suggested by Ira Copeland, a resident of the town, who some years before had heard the name called by a railway conductor as he rode on route to Detroit. Brockton is in the Province of Ontario, now a part of Toronto and was named after Sir Is sac Brock, a soldier and Lieutenant Governor of Canada.
