HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR LAST MEETING

The Chapter voted unanimously to accept the invitation to consolidate extended by Mayflower Chapter No. 65. Members cited the many positive experiences we have shared with Mayflower and the enthusiasm and dedication of their members.  We await their final decision.

How does one keep from "growing old inside"? Surely only in community. The only way to make friends with time is to stay friends with people.  Taking community seriously not only gives us the companionship we need, it also relieves us of the notion that we are indispensable. - Robert McAfee Brown

W are still looking for memorabilia from chapters that have consolidated with Brockton over the years. I would like to have each Chapter represented in our display case. Please let me know if you have something you would like to

display.

FROM THE SECRETARY

Thank you to everyone for the cards, thoughts, meals, and prayers you have sent my way. A special thanks to Karen E. Grabau, Gr. Sec. for filling in for me. You are all shining Stars.  I am still having a lot of trouble with typing and writing, so please forgive me for a delay in my response time. Feel free to call me with questions.

FROM THE EAST:

Thank you all for stepping up and filling in for us while away last month for vacation. Your support means the world to

us.

Please see Sister Kelly Milne if you are interested in taking an office for the 2012 - 2013 year. We have many new faces in our Chapter from our newest members and our Consolidated members. You all offer the Chapter an opportunity

to change and grow. We welcome your participation.

This month we celebrate Valentine's day. Let us all take that extra moment to tell those around us how much they

mean to us. Keeping the lesson of Electa in our words and deeds, "let us LOVE one another.”

Brockton Chapter No. 87

Instituted October 28, 1903

Constituted May 5, 1904

BROCKTON

The Chapter took its name in honor of its home city, which made history as one of the leading shoe manufacturing cities in the country.  From 1821 - 1874 the city was know as North Bridgewater.  On May 6, 1874 the name was changed to Brockton.  The story goes that the name was suggested by Ira Copeland, a resident of the town, who some years before had heard the name called by a railway conductor as he rode on route to Detroit. Brockton is in the Province of Ontario, now a part of Toronto and was named after Sir Is sac Brock, a soldier and Lieutenant Governor of Canada.
