Brockton Chapter No. 67 Instituted October 28, 1903 Constituted May 5, 1904
The Chapter took its name in honor of its home city, which made history as one of the leading shoe manufacturing cities in the country. From 1821 - 1874 the city was know as North Bridgewater. On May 6, 1874 the name was changed to Brockton. The story goes that the name was suggested by Ira Copeland, a resident of the town, who some years before had heard the name called by a railway conductor as he rode on route to Detroit. Brockton is in the province of Ontario, now a par of Toronto and was named after Sir Issac Brock, a soldier and Lieutenant Governor of Canada.
