Cradle Rock Chapter No. 125

Instituted April 7, 1909

Constituted October 27, 1909

In the northwest part of Barre, there existed a natural phenomenon consisting of two boulders so placed by  glacial action, one on top of the other, that the upper one would rock like a cradle at the touch of a hand.  It became know through the years as the Rocking Stone or Cradle Rock.  Regrettable, some years ago some thoughtless person was determined to move the upper rock from the pedestal.  he succeeded in moving its position, just enough, so that t no longer rocks.  the Chapter was appropriately named for the locally famous rock.
