EASTERN STAR REACHING OUT TO EXTEND

GENEROUS AID

TO THE VICTIMS

OF POVERTY AND DISTRESS

Shown with the disaster trailer are the Worthy Grand Matron, Sister Janet C. Hutchins and Worthy Grand Patron, Brother Raymond C. Oberg, who also presented the American Red Cross with large sacks of teddy bears, the service project during the year, so these teddies could be given to children who are victims of disasters.

A major project of Massachusetts Eastern Star during the Guardian year was the Worthy Grand Matron's community awareness project of an American Red Cross Trailer which the members of Massachusetts made possible by their donations during the year.

The Worthy Grand Matron presented each member of Massachusetts with a Massachusetts Eastern Star Pin and asked for their support of this project. The response was tremendous and the disaster trailer was on display in front of the building where their Grand Chapter Session was held so the members who contributed could see and be proud of the accomplishment, which they had made. The members and, in some cases, chapters donated so generously that sufficient funds were realized to also provide eight portable radios for use in emergencies, both hot and cold cambros, a complete large first aid kit, a generator t be placed inside the trailer and a generous check. Those contributing specific amounts had their names engraved on either a silver or gold honor roll and these honor rolls were hung permanently inside the trailer where victims can see them.

This disaster trailer is lettered on two sides as being donated by the Eastern Star of Massachusetts and it will travel all over the state wherever and whenever it is needed in cases of fires, floods and other disasters. Community members will be able to know for certain that Eastern Star is there to extend generous aid to the victims of poverty and distress, just as all members of the Order have been taught to do.
